The War Horses of World War I

The story of the War Horses is one of great bravery and courage, but also immense sacrifice and heartbreak. From the Battle of the Somme to Passchendaele, war horses contributed significantly to the war effort with victory having been impossible without them. Sadly they were, in many ways, silent soldiers enduring the same hardships as the men beside them, but without choice or recognition. In the end, the war horse became a symbol of sacrifice and loyalty, a reminder that the triumphs of World War I came at an immeasurable cost not only to human lives but also to the lives of millions of animals who bore the burden of such a horrible conflict. They are forever immortalized in history and their bravery, courage, sacrifice and suffering shall never be forgotten.
